Culinary school? Anyone in culinary school right now or are going to be going? Where and any advice on staying strong and getting throught it. Plus anyone planning to start their own business after graduation? I am. Just wandering if there are others like me.
Is culinary school really worth the money and time I spent? I am half way through my culinary course(it is a classroom training combined with on-the-job training) right now and I am considering to drop the school and start working in a restaurant, because I think it is the cheapest way to learn about the industry and acquiring the skills. What do you think?
Which culinary school do you think is the best? I am thinking about going to culinary school. I have been looking at Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas, Nevada and at Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena, California. Le Cordon Bleu is 15 months and of course cheaper but a great location. CIA is 22 months and much more expensive but is a nicer looking school and actual college campus. I've heard people say it doesn't really matter that employers are more interested in work experience than eduation. What do you think? P.S. I have no experience other than cooking for family and friends and small gatherings.
What should I be looking for in a Culinary School? I am looking at a couple culinary schools right now. The New England Culinary Institute which is rated as one of the best in the country, The Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Arizona, and the Art Institute of San Diego. Right now I live in Massachussetts but my dream is to work in San Diego. The best school is probably the one in New England but it is all the way up in Vermont. I guess what I want to know is, is there really that much of a difference between schools?

Any info would be appreciated :) And would most schools prefer some type of education other than highschool?
What are the requirements to go to a prestigious Culinary School? What do I need to do in order to get into one of the best culinary schools in america, for example CIA. What GPA do I need? Do I need internships? Do I need to go to the school and get an interview? Do I need letters of recommendation from my teachers or the people that I work for? Please answer these questions, it would be helpful, and if you could add some tips! That would help me dearly! THANKS A BUNCH !
Is it better to go to culinary school or get hands on experience if I want to be a prof. baker? Hi- I am trying to figure out if it is worth paying the big bucks to go to culinary school, or if it is better to get a hands on job in a bakery. So far the only bakery jobs I can get are in production (cooking only, no prep/mixing batters etc). Should I keep on trying to find a job in bakery or go to school first? Is the hands on experience better than school experience? Thanks!

I'd like to know the advantages and disadvantages of going to culinary school as an adult as opposed to going right out of high school, as well as likes and dislikes of being a chef in general. I'd also like to know if obtaining a bachelor's degree in culinary arts would be better than an associate's degree in the long run. Thank you.

Getting a bachelor's degree before I go to culinary school, which one? I will be going to culinary school, but before that I will be attending the University of Florida. I want a degree that will help me with my culinary career, but not a useless degree. I am heavily considering a business degree that specializes in food science. Would this be helpful, or is a business degree a useless degree? What do you think I should get a degree in?

Instruments that could be used to assist etc.? Thank you

Is Culinary School The Best Choice For Just Learning to Cook? Hey, everyone. I am interested in learning how to cook and I was wondering if a culinary school would be a good choice. I am not trying to become a chef at a restaurant or anything like that. I just want to be able to cook all kinds of great meals for my friends and family. Is there a culinary school that is not too expensive and that is able to work around a job? I would like to work at the same time (not in something related to cooking).
How much does culinary school cost? I enjoy cooking and have experience as a baker, mostly cakes and deserts. I want to take actual classes and possibly get some sort of certification in the culinary arts fields. I know there are a bunch of little private type "colleges" around the United States, but I'd like to hear from people who have actually gone as to the costs. So, anyone who has gone to a culinary arts school, please, how much did it cost you and where did you go?

Which is the best school for a Culinary arts education in Dallas area? El Centro or Dallas Arts Institute? I am considering a new career as a chef. I would add that I am planning on moving to New York in about 5 years and want to get started here in Dallas on my chef career. I figure I can start my education and career here and continue on with better education in New York.

Anybody heard of a good Italian Ice Cream Culinary School? I want to start my own Italian Gelato Ice Cream business someday. I would really like to receive formal training on how to make gelato. Does anybody know of a great culinary school that specializes in this or Italian desserts? A U.S. school would be fine, but somewhere overseas (Europe) would be much better. Short-term or long-term schools would both work for me. I'm not looking into doing the franchise thing. I really want to make it a place of my own. So please, any help about the subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!
